Easy DIY No Sew Fleece Blanket
While cooking is a passion of both Matt and I (Karlee), crafting has to rank higher on the list for me. Which is why on this lovely Sunday in December we are bringing to you this Easy DIY No Sew Fleece Blanket. This blanket is beyond easy. As long as you have a good pair of scissors and some large fleece you’re good to go.
Now I will be very upfront with you. If you have rotary scissors, a rotary board and a ruler it will be a bit easier. However, I made this blanket without any of those things. It may just not be as precise which for me is fine. The whole point of crafting is doing something yourself and that generally means it will be imperfect.
These blankets make great gifts, especially during the holiday season as the weather turns cold. The whole process will take you about 30 minutes depending on how big your blanket it. The fleece I used was about 60×80 inches which is larger than your typical throw blanket but I love oversized blankets. But enough about that, let’s get into this DIY so you can learn to make your own No Sew Fleece Blanket.
What You Will Need:
– Thick Fleece at least 52x60inches (ask for 2 metres at the fabric store)
– Fabric Scissors (or good pair)
1. Starting No Sew Fleece Blanket
To start take your piece of fleece and cut a straight edge along all of the sides. Usually at the fabric store they cut fairly straight but they are going quick, so you will want to just straighten these out. A ruler works well for this but if you don’t have one thats okay.
2. Pick What Sides You Want To Fringe
Next, pick two sides of the blanket that you want to fringe, making sure that they are on opposite sides of the blanket. You can also fringe all four sides of the blanket but I prefer the look of two sides. We fringed the sides that were 60 inches compared to the 80 inch sides.
3. Start Cutting
Once you have picked your sides you will need to measure out 1 inch and then, a 0.5 inch, then 1 inch, then a 0.5 inch, and so on, all along the side. You can either eyeball this or use a ruler or even a measuring tape. Make these measurements with a some chalk or make little cuts into the fabric. Once you have marked them the entire length of the side, start to make your actual cuts. Measure 5-6 inches into the blanket and cut into the fleece up to the that spot. Again make sure you alternate 1 inch, a 0.5 inch, 1 inch, etc. If your cuts aren’t perfectly straight don’t worry you can fix this at the end.
4. Cut Away Excess and Knot
Now you will need to cut away all of the fringe pieces that are 0.5 inches. Refer to the picture above for reference. Once you have done this you will only have the 1 inch fringe pieces left. These are the pieces you will tie into knots. Just tie a regular old knot at the top of the 1 inch piece where it meets the rest of the blanket.
5. Repeat and Finish
Repeat steps 3 and 4 on the opposite side of the blanket or all four sides if you wish. Once you are done tying off the 1 inch pieces on the last side, you’re all done! Didn’t I say it was super easy to make this No Sew Fleece Blanket? You can also clean up any edges on the fringe if they aren’t straight or matching the rest at this point.
If you’re giving this blanket as a gift you can fold it up, roll it and tie it off with some left over fleece that you cut off in step 1. Also if you want to get fancy, you can round off the ends of the fringe pieces to give it a more refined look, but that isn’t necessary.
